Vintage Warehouse

Even prior to our trip down to FL for Christmas, my mom and I were plotting a visit to Vintage Warehouse.

It's a big bare bones warehouse in Lakeland filled with vintage looking furnitures, decor, wall accents, accessories, etc. We absolutely love looking at this kind of stuff.

The seller's have "booths" outlined by blue painters tape on the floor to show where one booth stops and another starts. Some of the sellers were roaming around and will negotiate on an item. We found most things to be very reasonably priced.

I love these old windows as wall decor or over a bed.

Most of the furniture was painted. I love the look of mixing wood stained furniture pieces with a few painted furniture pieces in a home to provide interest... too many wood stained pieces make a room feel heavy to me. This painted gray hutch was fabulous! Love the wire for the top cabinet doors.

If we were already moved into our new home and I had thought about the design and layout, I GUARANTEE you I would have bought some furniture and wall decor! But since that hasn't happened yet I did not but don't fret... I still came away with 3 awesome items!

This gray bowl was calling my name. I loved the size and shape and how the paint was crackled. And for only $10 it only took a few minutes to decide it was coming home with me.

Let me preface this find by saying I have been wanting a white wooden tray ever since my mom found one just like this at her goodwill for $8. She uses it on her dining table with the dollar store candle holders on it and various other display options. She spotted this in one of the booths and we were in awe... the tray! Finally! And exactly like hers only slightly bigger! only $12 (negotiated down from $14)! Score!

Last but not least I got this lovely turquoise pendant for $6 that I will need to get a chain for. Can't wait to wear this!

My mom picked up this toolbox really cheap.

Recent Happenings

Our lives have definitely been busy lately with house stuff but we've had time for some fun activities too.

And to see our friends Brooke and Kevin and their adorable 2 year old. She calls ice cream "happy" because she started getting it people's birthdays and it just stuck... it has to be the cutest thing I've ever heard. My future children will only know ice cream as "happy" now. Can't wait for their second kiddo coming in August!

Megan and Emily came to Charlotte for a visit when our husbands/significant others were in Vegas for a Bachelor party. We had a blast shopping, catching up and having delicious wine and food. I guess we were too busy having fun because I only have 1 picture of Megan and I before leaving for dinner.

Weekend in Austin with our friends Vickie and Kelly (and SXSW for Eric). I'll do a whole post on Austin soon.

Annual St. Pattie's Party at the Waddells. This year the food was mexican fiesta. I'm sure the Irish love mexican because who doesn't?! And lots of cornhole playing as well... I think that was an ancient Irish tradition.

These are the Charlotte girls :) Love this picture. And yes there was an incline on the right side... the 3 of us aren't that short in comparison.

Of course whenever I have a camera I am doing some experimenting...

What I Wore

This is the very first What I Wore post. I mentioned I wanted to start inserting a few more style type posts into my blogging (clothes and style is a part of my life after all.. not to mention loving shopping!!) so here is my first attempt at that through an outfit.

I have seen this color combo on pinterest before and I knew I had the just right pieces to do the same! I wore this on a chilly drizzly day when I went to the Apricot Lane Boutique opening and on some other errands.

Baby Barnes Yellow and Green Shower

In January we threw a baby shower for Eric's older brother and his wife from Richmond, Thomas and Tory who were expecting in April. I was in charge of the shower and also gave tasks out to Megan, Eric's mom and grandma. What girl couldn't use a little help when not residing in the city where the shower is thrown?

They weren't finding out what they were having and didn't have a set nursery color scheme so I decided on a simple Yellow and Green shower. We held the shower at Eric's parents home at 11:30am on a Saturday with family and a few family friends.

I made a Baby Barnes banner and circle garland using my Silhouette. I made a simple yellow polka dot table runner.. basically like sewing a giant napkin. We used white or glass serving dishes and plates except for a few green accent pieces like the small green bucket used for pretzels and the small green tin watering can used for silverware.

Menu:

Chicken Salad served on croissants and rolls
Zucchini muffins
Orzo pasta salad
Fruit skewers
Onion dip with pretzel chips
Mini blueberry and apple cinnamon muffins
Coffee cake
Lemonade

 

I finally got to use my nice drink dispenser for the first time. From Homegoods. Obvi. It was leaking at first but Eric's dad was there to tighten it up and save the day! I ordered these striped green straws off amazon and already had the mason jars.

Little Miss Abby posing with the onion dip Megan made. We put it in a dip chiller I received as a gift from my godmother awhile back to keep it nice and cold. You fill the chiller with ice and the dip goes in smaller bowl that sits on top of the ice in the chiller.

Then we ate the food minus the cake. Everything was great and the chicken salad was especially a big hit. I don't know why but chicken salad and croissants just perfectly shower-ish to me. I didn't love the zucchini muffins (too mushy in the middle and not enough taste) and probably wouldn't make them again but a couple of people liked them.

After that we did Wishes For the Baby. This was a template I found online and printed out and had Megan back with scrapbook paper. It's a great shower keepsake for a baby book or whatever and people write some hilarious things.

Then we had coffee cake made by someone that Eric's mom works with. It was delicious! There were also some petit fours (I think from Publix).

We had one more shower activity... Baby Word Scramble! This was something I played at a shower for a co-worker and much better than those "guess the baby food" or "guess the chocolate bar in the diaper" games in my opinion.

 

Then it was time for presents. Abby was a good helper passing the presents to Tory.

And yes I made them a Gamecock onesie. I know I know... how could I? Well it wasn't easy but I guess that makes me a nice and welcoming Clemson fan, right :)

If you were wondering why I said at the beginning that they "were expecting in April" it is because Baby Barnes arrived on March 24th slightly ahead of schedule! It was a BOY and everyone is healthy and doing well! Welcome to the world Hudson Barnes!
